Goal-Directed Design Process
To start, we had a kick-off meeting. During this meeting, we underwent several changes but decided on an all-in-one traveling app to address particular issues many people face when planning a trip.
What all goes into planning a trip? The article I used for my Lit Review helped us prioritize what we should have in the app. It can also help us build our prototype with the basic expectations for traveling apps and then some. With how detailed and comprehensive this article is, we can provide users with a step-by-step process for planning their trip while meeting all their needs.
I did my Competitive Audit on Expedia. Though Expedia is a go-to for many people, the service needs fixing. My task was to nitpick through those flaws and find ways to improve our application to make it better and more user-friendly than Expedia.
We hosted five interviews that allowed us to see critical patterns through Affinity Mapping. These patterns included safety, social media aspects to gain inspiration, budgeting, etc. Our interviews helped us significantly with our modeling and prototyping phase by showing us what users need from an app like TravelMates.
Blue sticky note
After some more meetings and collaboration after our interviews, we started on our personas. We decided to do two different Personas since it appears we had some interviews with different goals and expectations
Our project's vision and problem statement were like guiding stars that illuminated our path throughout the prototype development process. By clearly defining our vision, we established a shared understanding of the ultimate goal we were striving to achieve. This vision served as a compass, keeping us focused and aligned on the core objectives of our project.
Similarly, our problem statement provided a concrete framework for identifying and addressing the key challenges we aimed to solve. It acted as a roadmap, guiding our decision-making process and ensuring that every feature we included in the prototype was directly tied to addressing the identified problem.
A safety map in TravelMate offers real-time information on potential hazards, empowering users to make informed decisions and avoid risks. It enhances trust in the app, provides peace of mind, and prioritizes user safety, making TravelMate a reliable travel companion.
Adding a social media feature to TravelMate would enrich the user experience by facilitating community engagement, enabling users to share experiences, tips, and recommendations with fellow travelers. It fosters a sense of belonging and inspires others, while also serving as a powerful marketing tool to attract new users.
Introducing an AI chat generator feature in TravelMate simplifies itinerary creation by offering personalized recommendations based on user preferences. It saves time, provides tailored suggestions, and continuously improves based on user interactions, making trip planning effortless and efficient.
I designed home and AI chatting
We conducted two usability tests in the Refinement phase to get feedback on our app's advantages and shortcomings. The only feedback we got were some layout and prototyping issues. Otherwise, our tester appreciated the app.
My takeaway from our senior project was very informative. Through a series of enlightening interviews, we gained invaluable insights that directly informed our prototype development process. Admittedly, I wasn't initially fully invested, but as we progressed, I began to appreciate the significance of our findings. It underscored the importance of thorough research in creating impactful designs.
